Editors: George K. Danns, Wazir Mohamed, Coreen Jacobs-Chester
This, the second volume of Dynamics of Caribbean Diaspora Engagement - Perspectives on the Caribbean Diaspora: An Exposition on Research, Pathways and Identity, is a direct and planned output of the University of Guyana’s Second Diaspora Conference, held on May 8–10, 2023, under the theme “Calling 592: Honouring, Researching, Reigniting Diaspora.” This conference was held at the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus, and as put forward by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paloma Mohamed, “… sought to focus on the embedded power of diasporas, and in particular the Guyanese diaspora’s ability for resilience, social and spatial reorganization, innovativeness, cultural diffusion, transnational agency, and transformation.” This book captures these areas of focus and, therefore, makes a significant contribution to the scarce literature on the diaspora in the region and beyond.
This second volume in the Dynamics of Caribbean Diaspora Engagement series explores the diverse experiences of Caribbean migrants worldwide, with particular emphasis on the Guyanese diaspora. It examines their identities, migration destinations, processes of adaptation and acculturation, and highlights their enduring connections and contributions to their homelands. The publication also investigates emerging policy pathways and institutions aimed at strengthening diaspora–homeland relationships. At a time when development challenges persist across the region and xenophobia is on the rise globally, this volume offers timely and important insights into the evolving role and significance of the Caribbean diaspora.
